  1. Hi,
I am Bharadwaj and I am from India. I’m planing to come to USA just to become an ATP.is it a wise decision to come allover to america or shall I try it over here.

    • Hi Bharadwaj,
I am not familiar with aviation in India at all, so I would recommend that you first compare options. What would the cost difference be? What school are you planning on attending? How do you plan on getting the 1,500hrs required to get your ATP (after finishing flight training, you will only have about 300 hrs)? Where do you plan on working after you get your ATP – if it’s in India, will you be able to transfer pilot certificates?

You should answer all these questions first and then see what will work better for you.

It all depends on you – it can take 3 months or 3 years or even more. You have to work hard and have the funds to do it.

  3. Hello I am currently in college and I was wondering what major I should be choosing to become a succesful pilot. I want to be a commercial pilot for Southwest. I am planning to start flight school soon just needed a little information, as listed:

    College Major.
How many hours of flying I should have.
What % of pilots make it to commercial.
Easiest but smartest way to make the dream a reality.

Thank you for anyone that answers!

    • The airlines typically don’t specify a major, they just want you to have a college degree. Try choosing a degree that interests you and that you could use in the event that you can’t fly OR one that you could use in addition to flying. For instance, with a business major you could have a side business of your own. Good luck!
